How can you help your body counter cough?

If you develop a cough despite all your preventive action, there are still several things you can do. Bisolvon® supports your body's natural recovery from cough. In addition, there are a number of steps you can take to minimise discomfort and help speed your recovery.
Drink plenty of liquids.
- Drink at least two litres of liquid per day. Infected mucous membranes tend to dry out. Try to avoid to drink alcohol, coffee or black tea because they dry out the body additionally. Instead, better drink e.g. water, juices, herbal or fruit tea.
- Make sure your throat and bronchi stay moist. That way, the phlegm in the bronchi becomes less viscous. This allows it to be loosened more easily and your body has less trouble in expelling it. Moreover, taking an expectorant remedy can be supportive.
Avoid reinfection.
A particular problem while recovering from a cold is the danger of reinfection. Because your immune system has been weakened, your body isn't yet strong enough to fend off new pathogenic germs.
- Never use soiled handkerchiefs. Viruses and bacteria are only waiting for their chance to invade your body. Use disposable paper tissues instead of cloth handkerchiefs.
- Wash your hands after blowing your nose. Cold viruses can remain contagious on the skin for several hours.
- Avoid contact with soap bars and instead use liquid soap from a soap dispenser. Soap bars might have become unclean if others have used it before.
Although they are very unpleasant, cough and common colds are often not causes for serious concern. However, if you feel symptoms worsening or persisting longer than about a week or if you develop more severe symptoms, you shouldn't hesitate to visit a doctor.
